2000 - Week 3
Well, I spoke too soon last week, now didn't I? That was a dismal performance. Things aren't looking too well. Anyway, here's the facts:
- We are now 1-2. This is only the sixth time in history that we have started a season 1-2. The last year was 1984. The best record that we've had when starting 1-2 is 8-3 (1947).
- Alabama's record on September 16 falls to 2-2.
- This is the 99th time Alabama has been shut out in a game, the last time occurring in 1997 against LSU (27-0). It is the sixth time we have lost a game 21-0.
- This is the eighth time we have lost a game by exactly 21 points, and the 59th time we have lost by 21 or more.
- Alabama's record when both teams combine for exactly 21 points is now 27-11. The Tide's record is 14-17 when it gives up 21 points exactly.
- The Tide's on-the-field record against the Golden Eagles drops to 30-5-2 (29-6-2 with the 1993 forfeit).
- Alabama went 1-1 in Birmingham this year; that's the 17th year that Alabama has had a .500 record in Birmingham.
- Bama's record in game 3 of the season drops to 74-29-2, a winning percentage of .714. That's the 5th-worst percentage of game numbers that we have. Game 12 is the worst, at .500 (makes sense, as most of these are bowl games). Average margin of victory in game 3s is 24-11.
- Mike DuBose's record as coach falls to 22-17. That's the 7th-worst winning percentage among Alabama coaches (.564), but it's the 3rd-worst among coaches that coached more than one year (Eli Abbott - .250; .350 if you count the year he co-coached with J. O. Heyworth) and J. B. "Ears" Whitworth - .167). Tops on that list? Duh...
Up Next - Arkansas
Bama tries to go to 2-0 in the SEC (which would be a much-needed bright spot). Here's a couple of things for starters...
- Alabama's all-time record against the Hogs is 7-3. We've averaged beating Arkansas by a touchdown in years past (22-15).
- Houston Nutt has never lost in the state of Arkansas...Alabama's never won in Fayetteville. They're 0-1 (guess when that loss came). They've never lost in Little Rock, but that's not much consolation.
- And really just for fun...of the 111 teams that Alabama has played all-time, Arkansas comes first alphabetically. (Last? Wisconsin, who've played Alabama one time (1928).)
