2000 - Week 5
Well, this was a better performance overall, wasn't it? Sometimes we do well, but we need to have more consistency. Anyway, here are the facts...
- This is the seventh time that Alabama has been 2-3 after five games.
- Wish that we could play all the time on September 30th. Alabama's record on that date is stellar..it moves to 14-0-1.
- The Tide is now 27-2-1 when they score exactly 27 points. They are 21-12-1 when they give up exactly 17. Alabama's record when both teams combine for exactly 44 points is now 11-3.
- This is the 21st time we have won by exactly 10 points. The last time was a 30-20 win over Southern Miss in 1998.
- This is the second 27-17 win in Bama's history. The first came in 1979 in a win over Tennessee.
- The Tide's on-the-field record against the Gamecocks improves to 10-0 (9-1 when the 17-6 win in 1993 is taken away).
- Alabama's record in Tuscaloosa since 1929 (the year Bryant-Denny Stadium opened) moves to an awesome 180-25-3, a winning percentage of .873. The Tide's record in Tuscaloosa openers moves to 91-11-1, and 61-8-1 in years since 1929.
- This is the second-smallest margin of victory against South Carolina, the smallest being 8 points in 1946 (14-6).
- With this game, this marks the first time that Alabama ever played five games in the month of September in any one year.
Up Next - Ole Miss
All right. We're right in the thick of the SEC West, and a win over the Rebels will help our standing there. Here's a little background...
- Alabama's all-time on-the-field record against the Rebs is 39-6-2, with the average game being a 29-10 Bama victory. Alabama has only beaten Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee more times than Ole Miss. Furthermore, only Mississippi State and Vanderbilt have allowed more points to Alabama than Ole Miss.
- Bama is 18-1 against Ole Miss in Tuscaloosa...the lone loss came in 1988. The Rebels have had their best luck in Jackson, where Bama is only 6-4-1 against them.
- Alabama plays its first game in October...over the years, the Tide is 305-89-22 in the tenth month.
