- This will be Bama's first game against Iowa State, making the Cyclones the 114th different team that Bama has played a game against.
- It will be the 22nd time that a bowl game is the venue when Alabama meets an opponent for the first time. Alabama is 12-8-1 in such games; the last time occurred against North Carolina in the 1993 Gator Bowl, a 24-10 Bama win.
- Bama is only 11-13-2 against teams from the current Big XII conference. (Those seven losses against Texas hurt...)
- Bama ventures into Louisiana to play a bowl game for the thirteenth time. The previous twelve were all at the Sugar Bowl. Bama holds an 8-4 mark in Louisiana-based bowls.
