2001 - Iron Bowl Special
It's that time of year again. When two teams will stop a state for an afternoon. The Iron Bowl is the game that everyone looks forward to every year, and with the tradition that goes on behind it, it's something special to be a part of. So this year, I'm starting the Iron Bowl Special edition of UA Football Facts.
To this point in its history:
- Series record: 37-27-1 in Bama's favor. Auburn won the last meeting 9-0.
- Alabama's biggest win: 55 (1948: 55-0).
- Auburn's biggest win: 48 (1895: 48-0; 1900: 53-5).
- Bama's record in Auburn: 1-4.
- 21 is a magic number of sorts in this game:
- Alabama is 25-5 when they score 21 or more against the Tigers.
- Alabama is 3-19 when they allow 21 or more to Auburn.

- With Bama's 24-17 win over Mississippi State, and Auburn's 24-17 win over Georgia, this is the first time that the teams have come into the game after beating their previous opponents by the same score. It's only the second time that they've come into the game after winning their previous games by the same margin (1958 - 14).
- Bama has never entered an Iron Bowl with a 4-5 record.
- Auburn has entered an Iron Bowl 7-2 three times previously (1959, 1969, 1970). They lost in 1959 and won the other two.
- Bama is 3-3 when entering the Iron Bowl with 4 wins (1904, loss; 1905, win; 1951, win; 1954, loss; 1984, win; 1997, loss).
- Auburn is 5-4 when entering the Iron Bowl with 7 wins (1953, loss; 1955, win; 1959, loss; 1969, win; 1970, win; 1982, win; 1990, loss; 1995, win; 1996, loss).
- The game has been played on November 17th twice before, with the teams splitting the matchups 1-1.

- Auburn loses game #368.
- Bama takes a two-game winning streak at Auburn, a first for the Tide.
- The series will have had only one multiple-game win streak since 1993 (Alabama, with two in 1998-9).
If Auburn wins:
- Auburn wins game #618, #28 against Bama.
- Alabama loses game #282.
- Auburn takes a two-game winning streak in the series for the first time since 1989 (when they held a four-game streak).
- Auburn moves the series margin under ten games for the first time since 1997.
