2001 - Week 11
One of the more unusual games I've ever witnessed, for sure. This one had just about everything - two-point defensive runbacks, safeties; and when was the last time that you saw three extra points missed in a game? Anyway, it's a win, and it gets us to bowl-eligible status! Here's more information on the win.
- Bama gets its 30th win against the Golden Eagles, moving the all-time series record to 30-6-2. Bama has played USM the last ten years and is 8-2 in those games (one being a 40-0 win in 1993 that was forfeited).
- Bama finishes its home year 4-3, including a 2-0 campaign in Birmingham. Bama finishes under .500 at Tuscaloosa for only the 9th time in their 107 years of football. But they finish at .500 or better in Birmingham for the 85th time, and undefeated in the Magic City for the 49th time (perfect for the 40th year).
- Bama scores 28 points for the 29th time. The Tide holds a 24-5 record in these contets. The Tide has scored 28 or more points five times this year; that's the second time since 1994 that Bama has scored 28 or more five times (1999 - 10).
- Bama gives up 15 points for the 9th time; we hold a 6-3 edge in such contests. The last time that Bama gave up exactly 15 points was in 1988, against Auburn.
- The Tide wins a game by 13 points for the 23rd time, and the first time since September 26, 1992 (13-0 against Louisiana Tech).
- Bama has a 2-1 non-conference record at this point, thus assuring itself of at least a .500 non-conference mark for the 61st time since the SEC was formed in 1933.
- Bama is 8-6 on November 29. It's the first time Bama has played a game on November 29th since 1975, a 28-0 win over Auburn.
- A stat that I got from ESPN...Bama is now 83-11 in regular-season non-Saturday games.
- Bama stands at 6-5 for the third time; it's the second time that the Tide has been 6-5 after the regular season (1970). Thus the Tide has its 94th season at .500 or better in 107 years of football.
- Bama's scoring average after the regular season: 27.64 points per game. That's the second-highest total for Bama since the 1992 championship year. Bama's giving up 19.91 points per game, its lowest average since 1996.
