2001 - Week 5
Well, now...that's what we like to see! Here's some information on the big UTEP win.
- As we all know, this win stops a five-game non-conference losing streak, if the 2000 Orange Bowl against Michigan is counted.
- Bama had never beaten an opponent 56-7 before this past week. However, Bama has scored 56 points numerous times: seven times, to be exact. Of course, Bama's a perfect 7-0 in those games.
- Alabama's win over UTEP is the ninth time Alabama has outscored an opponent by 49 points. It's the 109th time Alabama has beaten an opponent by 40 or more points.
- When allowing only seven points to an opponent, Bama is 106-12-12. UTEP's touchdown in the fourth quarter prevented Bama from notching their 307th shutout of an opponent.
- We're on a bit of a scoring spree! It's the first time that Bama has scored 50 or more points in a game since a September 25, 1993, 56-3 win over Louisiana Tech. It's also Bama's biggest win since that date.
- It's the first three-game stretch in which Alabama has scored over 30 points in each game since September 25 (Arkansas, 35-28), October 2 (Florida, 40-39), and October 16, 1999 (Ole Miss, 30-24).
- Against first-time opponents, Alabama sports a 83-28-2 record. The win over UTEP marks the 10th biggest win over a first-time opponent.

- Bama is 3-2 for the 11th time in its history. The best finishing record with a 3-2 start is 9-2 in 1950.
- After five games, Alabama is averaging 30.4 points per game. If that were to continue, it would be the highest scoring rate for Alabama since 1983 (30.5 ppg). Alabama is giving up 16.6 points per game, its lowest rate since 1996 (15 ppg).
- Bama moves to 9-3 in games played on October 6.
Up Next - Ole Miss
Next up, the Rebels, and five straight SEC games. A few facts to start off:
- Bama has won ten straight against the Rebels since a 22-12 loss in 1988. Alabama has not lost against Ole Miss in the state of Mississippi since 1976 (10-7 in Jackson). Alabama's never lost on the field in Oxford; they're 4-0 there.
- Bama holds a 40-6-2 record on the field against Ole Miss all-time: 39-7-2 counting the 1993 forfeit. They'll go for their 40th win officially against the Rebels this week. If they get it, the Rebels would be the fifth team Bama can claim 40 wins or more against (Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, LSU, and Tennessee are the others).
- Alabama is 36-12-2 all-time in the state of Mississippi.
