2001 - Week 6
Wow. That one hurt. Getting kind of tired of losing like that. More information:
- Bama loses for the first time since 1988 against Ole Miss, for the first time since 1976 in the state of Mississippi against the Rebels, and for the first time ever in Oxford.
- Ole Miss gets their eighth win against Alabama, their seventh on the field. Alabama now has a 40-7-2 record against the Rebels on the field, which is an 83.67% winning percentage. It's the best winning percentage Alabama has against a team it's played 40 times or more.
- It's the second 27-24 loss Bama has absorbed. The Tide lost by the same score to Southern Miss in 1990.
- Bama has lost a game by three points fifteen times; it's happened twice this year, and twice against Ole Miss (1976). The losing margin has been three points or less in each of the three losses. It marks the first time in Alabama's history that a Tide team has lost three games in a season by three points or less.
- Bama is usually very good when they score 24 points: 39-5-1. However, they're only 2-10-1 when allowing 27 points.
- Bama falls to 3-3 for the second straight year, and the eighth overall.
- Bama is now 10-3 in games played on October 13.
Up Next - Tennessee
Once again, it's time for the third Saturday in October. Alabama vs. Tennessee. The six-game losing streak is common knowledge, but here's some other stats:
- Alabama's all-time on-the-field record against the Vols is 42-33-8. Alabama has beaten only Mississippi State and Vanderbilt more times.
- This matchup has been played on the third Saturday of October 68 times thus far, with Bama holding a 34-27-7 lead in those games.
- This is only the third meeting in Tuscaloosa for these two teams. The series is deadlocked 1-1 in Tuscaloosa games.
- The last time Alabama lost to Ole Miss, it came back to beat Tennessee the next week. Hey, I'll take it.
- I said it last year, but it bears repeating. This is truly a series of streaks. Amazingly, the last three-year period that has had alternating winners was 1946-1948.
