What I Thought About Football!

Main

(02-03-10) I think the Coca-Cola National Championship cans are about as perfect an item as there is for me, unless they improve it by adding the Simpsons and Dilbert to the can. That would about cover everything I collect.

(06-11-09) I think I would like to thank the morons at the NCAA for once again making it so easy to make fun of them. I would say Alabama would easily win an appeal, except that the NCAA also handles the appeals process...

(12-06-08) I think I am begging CBS to get new announcers for next season...I can't take another year of Tebow man-crushes.

(11-29-08) I think I would like to thank our Alabama garden gnome that we got in August for leading the team to a perfect regular season. Oh yeah, and I guess the players and coaches helped too.

(09-27-08) I think Georgia should look on the bright side...at least the whole "blackout" thing sold some shirts. Roll Tide!

(09-20-08) I think Arkansas's quarterback needs to work on his tackling. Roll Tide!

(09-07-08) I think it's kind of scary to think that, even if Alabama is not over-rated at #11 this week (which we are), we still have three regular season games against teams currently ranked higher than us (Georgia, LSU, and Auburn).

(12-31-07) I think that even in HD, Boise State's blue field turf looks icky.

(12-12-07) I think I appreciate Petrino's efforts to give the media someone to pick on other than Saban.

(11-24-07) I think I really kind of expected the Alabama fans to give up on this season and look ahead to next year after the LSU game, but I really didn't expect the players to do the same.

(10-31-07) I think that those who went to school in South Bend will be the only ones not rooting for Navy over Notre Dame this weekend.

(09-08-07) I think I love that half of the signs made by the LSU fans on Game Day this morning were anti-Saban. Is this what it feels like to matter again? So we know he's under the skin of the fans and their coach...if their players are half as obsessed about Saban as they are, then LSU has no shot of being undefeated when they come to Tuscaloosa.

(09-01-07) I think if you check the box score of the Western Carolina game, I caught a pass or two and probably had a rushing TD. Everyone else did. Oh yeah, and I had a Bill Keith sighting on the PPV broadcast one time when they panned the crowd.

(11-21-06) I think that, in light of the current situation with Coach Shula, I would like to make it known to my employer that if I can ever make $4 million by being fired, they are more than welcome to go ahead and fire me. In fact, I would encourage it. Pretty please?

(11-19-06) I think thank goodness that basketball season is starting!

(10-29-06) I think it was good to see so many people at Homecoming yesterday.

(10-16-06) I think there are going to be a LOT of Duke fans this weekend when they play Miami.

(10-14-06) I think ESPN should do their homework...during the Auburn/Florida broadcast, they put up a graphic stating that on game days Auburn becomes the 5th largest city in Alabama. However, Alabama also played at home today, which means Auburn was only the 6th largest city in Alabama.

(10-01-06) I think if the CBS announcers were any more infatuated by Tim Tebow from Florida, they would be obligated to ask him on a date.

(09-30-06) I think there is no reason to have instant replay in college football if the officials aren't going to have the guts to overturn bad calls that help the home team.

(09-25-06) I think there is a lot of dumb team merchandise in this world, but the red plastic hog face things they have at Arkansas have got to be the dumbest.

(09-25-06) I think if one more announcer refers to Alabama's quarterback as "Parker Wilson", I'm going to scream. It's not a double last name! Parker is his middle name! Parker Wilson is his dad! Do your homework!

(08-29-06) I think it's a harsh reality to accept the fact that no one cares about hearing the results of your video game football season.

(04-12-06) I think we parked next to the hideous all-orange-and-white Tennessee truck in the parking lot, but I behaved and didn't purposely hit it when I opened the door. I should get a Nobel Prize...

(02-05-06) I think a lot of people wanted the Steelers to win the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, this included the refs.

(01-02-06) I think the old-school football gods smiled once again today as they pushed possibly the ugliest successful field goal try ever through the uprights. Once again, a pass-wacky team could not overcome a stingy defense and a plodding, ball-control offense. Roll Tide!

(11-19-05) I think we can all take a little comfort in the fact that Tennessee lost to Vanderbilt. Wow, that made me feel better just typing it. Tennessee lost to Vanderbilt! Tennessee lost to Vanderbilt!

(11-17-05) I think it is worth noting that we have completed week 10 of the NFL season, and Shaun Alexander has personally scored more touchdowns than nine NFL teams.

(10-29-05) I think it'd be a shame if Tennessee fired the Great Pumpkin after taking the team from #3 to struggling to become bowl eligible. And since you can't see the sarcastic look on my face, you'll just have to trust me on this one.

(10-19-05) I think Alabama is going to beat Tennessee on Saturday, but I do not think it will be anything like the Florida game. I said in the preseason that we would beat Tennessee, and nothing to this point has caused me to change my mind. True, Tennessee will be fired up and look at this game as a way to salvage a little bit of their season, but I still think it means a lot more to us than it does to them. Bryant-Denny will be rocking, and our guys are hungry after gut-wrenching losses to them the last two years.

(09-27-05) I think Tennessee might be the worst #10 ranked team in the history of the college football polls.

(04-23-05) I think it does not reflect well on Mike Dubose's recruiting ability that Auburn, UAB, and Troy State all had first round NFL draft picks, and Alabama had none.

(01-03-05) I think that before I just went to ESPN to see what they had to say about the Sugar Bowl, I said to myself, "The headline is going to have the word 'sweet' in it". And of course, it did.

(11-15-04) I think I watched the Alabama-LSU game on a big-screen HD TV. Now I'm not sure that I'll ever be able to watch a game on a small, regular TV again...

(11-08-04) I think it was nice of ESPN2 to interupt their Sylvester Croom documentary a few times to show the Alabama/MSU game.

(10-25-04) I think that pretty soon, middle school running backs and quarterbacks who are dreaming of one day playing for Alabama are going to start coming down with ACL tears.

(10-18-04) I think that, just to clarify what the media is saying about Alabama, that winning two games in a row does not qualify as a "streak".

(09-09-04) I think there are now a lot more Troy University fans than there were a few hours ago.

(09-04-04) I think nothing gets you in the mood for college football season quite like the picture of the pig with the football uniform that they put on the receipt at Piggly Wiggly.

(11-30-03) I think I've finally accepted the fact that Alabama just wasn't a very good football team this year.

(11-16-03) I think Ohio State is the luckiest team ever.

(10-25-03) I think I'm not one to ssecond-guess playcalling, since I'm no football expert, but a fade route? On 4th and 2 with the game on the line? Of course, it should never have gotten to that point, but still...

(10-25-03) I think the Tennessee game has made me physically ill.

(10-20-03) I think Brandon should probably reconsider his earlier prediction that Alabama could go 10-3 this season.

(10-06-03) I think I'd like to remind Coach Shula that I have four years of eligibility left, and could probably figure out how to hand the ball off...

(09-10-03) I think the season's just not quite the same without Brandon's UA football facts page.

(08-30-03) I think that every once in a while, there's no sweeter music to the ears than drunken shouts of "Roll Tide!" followed by about 80,000 people cheering to the fight song.

(08-16-03) I think Michael Irvin as an ESPN NFL analyst just might rank a 100 on the unintentional comedy scale.

(05-10-03) I think that every once in a while, Jesse Jackson should consider the remote possibility that every decision that people make is not racially motivated. Why, exactly, does it make national headlines everytime he opens up his idiotic mouth? Has he taken even a moment to ponder the possibility that Alabama hired Shula because he was the best candidate for the job, not because he's white? Does Jackson have some incredible eye for football coaching talent that he knows better? Is anybody supposed to believe that Witt and Moore thought to themselves, "Well, this other guy would be a much better coach, but he's black, so we shouldn't give him the job." I think he's embarassing himself by comparing this to Wallace's stand in the schoolhouse door...

(05-08-03) I think sports writers across the state are upset because Alabama's new coach doesn't have nearly as many pun-filled headline possibilities as the last one.

(05-01-03) I think sometimes it seems like Alabama football would have been better off if they HAD given us the death penalty.

(12-30-02) I think I just can't express how bad it makes me feel when your SEC West Champion Arkansas Razorbacks get killed by Minnesota.

(12-20-02) I think if you're a football coach, the easiest way to get a pay raise is to have your name mentioned for the Alabama job.

(12-05-02) I think the University of Texas acquired thousands of new fans today, myself included.

(12-05-02) I think I'm not real happy with Mr. Franchione right now. Ordinarily, I wouldn't blame someone for wanting more money and a better situation, but his whole leadership philosophy is built on trust and loyalty. He harps on it all the time. That's what kept every single player who could have transferred with no penalty last year on the team. Some loyalty he is displaying...oh well, maybe this time we can find a coach whose name people can pronounce.

(11-25-02) I think being highly favored in the Iron Bowl is apparently not a good thing.

(11-14-02) I think there will be more Auburn fans rooting for Alabama this weekend than there have been in a long time.

(11-10-02) I think I'd like to point everyone's attention to the fact that Jason McAddley led the Arizona Cardinals in receiving in their game today with 113 yards. That's right, THE Jason McAddley.

(10-19-02) I think the Ole Miss players are probably ragging their punter with things like "You got out-kicked by a guy with a torn ACL" and "Maybe we should tear up your knee and see what happens".

(10-19-02) I think that when Santonio Beard brings his A game, he's darn near unstoppable.

(10-05-02) I think that even though they beat us, Georgia is still extremely overrated.

(09-24-02) I think Randy Moss is an idiot.

(09-21-02) I think it wasn't pretty, but at least it's a W.

(09-09-02) I think the SEC has not fared well this year in non-conference games against real teams.

(09-09-02) I think it's Monday morning, and Hershel Bolden is still getting beat on deep routes, at least in my head.

(09-08-02) I think I don't know how to feel about the game yesterday. On the good side, we outplayed the (supposedly) #3 team in the nation for all but a few minutes of the game. On the down side, of course, we lost a game that we should have won. At any rate, I think North Texas might be in for a hurtin'....

(08-28-02) I think if I were a betting man, I wouldn't bet on Alabama or Florida to cover their spreads this weekend. I think both will win, but Bama is favored by 19 points over MTSU, and Florida is favored by 33 points over UAB.
