What I Thought About Relatively Serious

Main

(11-05-10) I think that one big difference between high school/college and being an adult is that as an adult, you're thrilled to be at home in your pajamas by 6 PM on a Friday night.

(09-25-09) I think it is a little freaky to find a fairly big snake (well, big for a small yard in a garden home neighborhood) next to the porch under your child's swing. It is later gross to find, after cutting the grass, that it was also a fairly slow snake. Let's just say that, like the snake is now, I was beside myself.

(08-22-09) I think I just tried to prove my manhood by making a quart of Gaterade in a pitcher and then drinking it straight from the pitcher while doing yard work. Unfortunately, all this actually proved is that my wife isn't home.

(07-14-09) I think that as weekdays go, it's hard to beat working from home, completing way more of a project than you expected, PB&J for lunch while watching The Office reruns, sweet smiles from Katelyn all day long, outdoor exercise after work, leftover Chinese for supper, swinging on the porch and playing in the yard with the fam, and watching Arrested Development on Hulu with Tammy and the dog while eating M&M's. Good day.

(07-05-09) I think I am impressed by how much Spanish my wife is learning from Sesame Street.

(04-07-09) I think I can't believe that today is the 10th anniversary of the first time Tammy lowered her standards enough to go on a date with me! I feel old...

(10-14-08) I think I am a little hurt that Wii Fit says that I am both overweight and out of balance.

(04-09-08) I think if anybody wants to live near us, almost our entire neighborhood is for sale.

(12-31-07) I think I had the most exciting New Year's Eve ever! I put together a baby swing AND cleaned the gunk out of my dog's eyes! We're going to have to settle down next year since we'll have a baby...

(12-28-07) I think my tip of the day, for anyone who has never played a Wii before, is to make sure you stretch before you play for the first time. I'm REALLY sore today.

(12-17-06) I think I passed one of my last rites of passage toward being a man. I changed a tire all by myself. I didn't get any bonus points for being in the rain or on the side of the interstate with 18 wheelers racing by, but it's still an accomplishment for someone with a very spotty car record as myself.

(12-05-06) I think that, when shopping with Tammy, it's not a question of whether or not she'll knock stuff off the shelf at a store; it's a question of how many times she will do it and whether or not what she knocks off is breakable.

(08-28-06) I think I was going to call out Brandon for getting a sandwich at Dreamland, but then I realized that I can't really say anything since I was in Tuscaloosa for four years and never ate at the original one there.

(08-03-06) I think that any day where your stocks make more than you do, that is classified as a "good day".

(06-07-06) I think it is probably not a good sign when the first thing your dental hygienist says, after looking at your teeth, is "Ewwwww".

(04-11-06) I think I haven't been thinking much lately, but fortunately, everyone else has been.

(03-27-06) I think our new vacuum cleaner really sucks.

(02-26-06) I think it only took a year and a half...our Disney World pictures are now online!

(02-18-06) I think pleasant surprises are always good...today, I went to the New Balance store to buy some new laces for my shoes...as it turns out, they don't carry them, but they gave me a 1800 number that I could call and they would send me replacement laces for free. Woohoo!

(02-14-06) I think that every year, on Valentine's Day, the marketing department at Hallmark sits down to a steak dinner and says things like "best idea ever" and "I can't believe it's still working!'.

(01-24-06) I think it took four and a half years, but Tammy has finally accepted that one of her wifely duties is to remember where we park at Wal-Mart and the mall.

(12-31-05) I think that something feels a little weird about taking down Christmas lights when it's in the 60s outside, but I'll take it over freezing my hands off like I have the last few years any day!

(12-20-05) I think when you're reusing a gift bag from last Christmas, you should probaby make sure that the new tag you're putting on it is bigger than the old one. You can probably get away with this if your gift is from the dog, though.

(12-20-05) I think it makes me really happy that Best Buy is now discriminating against people paying with cash...they have like one lane open for cash and like five for credit/debit cards. Welcome to the 90s, people.

(12-13-05) I think I'm expecting a personal thank-you note from the good people at Discover Card in January.

(11-26-05) I think that something feels a little weird about putting up Christmas lights when it's in the 60s outside, but I'll take it over freezing my hands off like I have the last few years any day!

(11-26-05) I think I nearly wept tears of joy this morning as I paid $1.95 a gallon for gas. Unfortunately, that was in Huntsville...it's a good 20 cents a gallon more here in Birmingham. Can someone tell me how that makes sense?

(08-03-05) I think the biggest problem with cutting down on your spending is that you then get less cash-back on your credit card!

(07-10-05) I think that if you pay for an hour of bowling, and then that hour ends just as the last person in the group is getting ready to bowl the 10th frame to top off one of his best games ever, and that person happens to be me, IT SHOULD FREAKING LET YOU FINISH.

(04-07-05) I think it's always a good feeling to reclaim a pair of jeans from the "too small" pile.

(03-31-05) I think if you ignore voicemails long enough, they eventually delete themselves.

(02-13-05) I think I just found something on my old computer that was copied from an even older computer that was something that I wrote in 1992 called "Ricky's Mindless Mumblings". I guess that would make it a precursor to Ricky's Ramblings. Wow, that was a long time ago.

(12-24-04) I think icicle Christmas lights should only come in white. All other colors should be destroyed.

(11-26-04) I think that, this time of year, I may be personally responsible for Amazon.com's success.

(11-23-04) I think the Christmas season is much easier to approach when you've already bought almost all of your spouse's gifts.

(10-18-04) I think that I can never really view myself as successful in life until I own all of the Dilbert books.

(10-10-04) I think the whole 1122 family (me, Tammy, Brandon, and Kelly) will be at Homecoming next weekend, so hopefully we'll see some people there!

(09-29-04) I think it's really funny when the checkout person at the grocery store is in awe of how many coupons you're using.

(08-06-04) I think congratulations are in order for Brandon...he got a job! That's right, BG, I just scooped your own site!

(03-28-04) I think it's nice to catch up with friends. And by the way, I now have proof that Brandon is still alive and kicking!

(01-28-04) I think everyone should know that the Holiday Inn near my house is advertising a special Valentine's Day package. I believe they are also throwing in marriage counseling for any man dumb enough to think he can tell his wife they're going on a romantic getaway when they're going to a Holiday Inn in Alabama.

(01-13-04) I think I have a garbage can that I want to get rid of...how in the world am I supposed to throw it away?

(01-03-04) I think I'm glad this time off during the holidays has allowed me to get refocused on some of the important things in life that I've neglected lately...like Spider Solitaire and Triple Freecell.

(12-15-03) I think I have a new best friend, and its name is Claritin-D.

(10-20-03) I think Kohl's is now one of my favorite stores.

(10-14-03) I think Brandon and Kelly should fly to Birmingham to see us sometime...after all, we could have a quick 1122 shareholders' meeting, and then he can write it off as a business expense... :)

(10-10-03) I think that driving across the Golden Gate Bridge is sort of a surreal experience.

(09-30-03) I think playing organized basketball for the first time in years is a very humbling experience.

(08-18-03) I just ran some reports in Microsoft Money, and found out that over the past 12 months, we've only spent $50 more at Bruno's than at Lowe's. That's just scary. And it's also weird that Wal-Mart is a distant third...some things sure have changed since college.

(03-23-03) I think cutting the grass is a lot easier when, for the first time ever, it's actually my grass.

(03-15-03) I think Tammy definitely earned some Cool Wife Points last night for watching a Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie with me.

(02-14-03) I think anyone else who tells their wife today that they are the best, most beautiful, special, sweet, or incredible in the world is lying, because there can only be one, and I married her.

(02-07-03) I think if Brandon can have a picture with his woman on his page, then I can too!

(01-30-03) I think woohoo! My car insurance is coming way down as of today! Getting old isn't always a bad thing...

(01-25-03) I think I knew the basketball team's season was over when they were ranked #1. High rankings are never good things for Alabama teams in any sport.

(01-14-03) I think Tammy's not going to believe me when I tell her that my doctor said I have a serious Mountain Dew deficiency.

(12-30-02) I think I'm going to write the screenplay for a movie called Adventures in Home-Ownership. The plot is writing itself...

(12-27-02) I think I'm going to make my own how-to video on installing 2" blinds for your windows. Six sets down, two to go!

(12-18-02) I think it's nice to finally have all of my utilities fully installed and working. Especially the cable modem.

(12-04-02) I think there's really no such thing as "disposable income".

(11-20-02) I think this is the last thought I'll ever post from the apartment, because I'm about to take down the computer.

(11-20-02) I think I'm so proud...we've successfully junked up both a house and an apartment at the same time!

(11-19-02) I think of all the utilities and such that I've had to contact about my move, Alabama Power has been the best so far, because I was able to submit my transfer request on their web site. To no one's surprise, Bellsouth ranks last, although their new feature where their system calls you back when someone is available (rather than you sitting on hold for 10 minutes) is nice.

(11-15-02) I think (I know, actually) that we're now officially homeowners! Closing went very well! I think my hand is cramping from signing my name so much!

(11-12-02) I think that no matter how many times I see her do it, the sight of our guinea pig on top of her house is one of the more comical parts of my life.

(11-07-02) I think everyone should know that we just bought a couch (a sectional, actually), and if you listen carefully, you can actually hear my wallet sobbing softly...

(11-05-02) I think experiencing Third Day & Michael W. Smith doing "Agnus Dei" together was really cool...

(11-01-02) I think gutting a pumpkin is not one of my favorite activities.

(10-27-02) I think you have no idea how old it makes me feel to say that we're picking out a refrigerator and a washer and dryer this weekend.

(09-22-02) I think everyone can see a picture of our new house right here. Obviously, it's not finished yet. :)

(09-16-02) I think everyone should know that we did in fact sign a contract on a house tonight. Our tentative closing date is November 15!

(09-16-02) I think we're probably signing a contract for a house tonight!

(09-02-02) I think everyone should know that Tammy played Playstation with me tonight, and she had two rushing touchdowns, including a beautiful 80 yard run up the right sideline!

(08-31-02) I think everyone should know that we just got the new Super Shark vacuum cleaner, and it sucks.

(08-28-02) I think this year has gone by really fast...we started Christmas music in choir tonight!

(08-06-02) I think our guinea pig is officially a teenager now. No matter how much space you give her to run around in, she's always most interested in what's just on the other side of the fence.

(07-22-02) I think Tammy should just give up on trying to get me to tell her where we're going for our anniversary.

(07-10-02) I think the ESPY Awards aren't supposed to make you cry.

(06-10-02) I think that for some reason it really bothers me that, according to CYP's website, she "hung out at OfficeMax".

(05-27-02) I think my first attempt at grilling steaks was a huge success.

(05-13-02) I think the only good thing about being sick is how much more you appreciate feeling well once you get better.

(05-05-02) I think grilling out is a lot of fun.

(03-26-02) I think I can't believe that it's now been two years since we went to Hawaii. It was Spring Break 2000. I want to go back!

(03-16-02) I think this is the cleanest this apartment has *ever* been. Ahhh, spring cleaning...

(03-08-02) I think it's funny how, in college and high school, you dread Friday nights with no plans and nothing to do. Now, I cherish them...

(02-28-02) I think watching a guinea pig drink out of a bottle is one of the more comedic experiences in life.

(01-30-02) I think everyone should know that my wonderful wife actually got up and made me breakfast this morning for my birthday!

(01-07-02) I think it's weird that, with Malfunction Junction shut down, most everyone seemed to actually get to work earlier than normal. Then again, everyone also left much earlier...

(12-24-01) I think I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

(12-19-01) I think with the ridiculous number of bowl games we have now, we might as well go ahead and start planning for the 1122 Bowl... (and no, Brandon, I'm not talking about the plastic bowling set we had)

(12-12-01) I think everyone in the world should have the opportunity to see the show that is Brandon on Comtrex. I gave it five stars!

(12-10-01) I think Ole Miss should quit whining about not getting into a bowl with a 7-4 record and realize that five of those wins were against Murray State, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. Try playing UCLA for your season opener.

(12-07-01) I think waking up in the middle of the night is a mixed blessing. On one hand, you're losing some sleep, but on the other, it sure is nice to look at your alarm clock and realize you've got a few more hours to sleep.

(11-30-01) I think everyone should know that I'm now broadcasting live from the Opryland Hotel in Nashville!

(11-28-01) I think our guinea pig thinks she's a ninja. She does this flying backwards kick thing.

(11-21-01) I think our guinea pig will never suffer from lack of attention.

(11-21-01) I think the coolest job in the world is that of the people who test the software at EA Sports.

(11-19-01) I think Tammy looks pretty cute in a Krispy Kreme hat.

(11-16-01) I think throughout my life, my biggest advantage in sports has been the fact that I look like I'd be terrible, when in fact I'm only bad. People leave me open or don't guard me very close, and it usually comes back to haunt them.

(11-13-01) I think most people in college don't know how good they have it. I sure didn't...

(11-09-01) I think if Brandon and I spent as much time solving the world's problems as we do playing and talking about Red Alert (a computer game), we'd have a few of them solved.

(10-16-01) I think the quote of the day is from Tammy, right before going to exercise: "Wait a minute...I'm tired from getting up off the couch..."

(10-15-01) I think the Mentone area got misplaced and ended up in Alabama by accident.

(10-04-01) I think if I invented fat-free doughnuts that tasted good, I'd be a VERY wealthy person.

(09-26-01) I think the less cash you carry, the less people will bum money off you.

(09-24-01) I think it's fun to have my own taxi to drive me around Atlanta...and the driver's much better looking than most taxi drivers.

(09-19-01) I think that, not to in any way trivialize or make humor out of the situation, that I seriously wonder whether the suicide hijackers bought one-way or round-trip tickets.

(09-17-01) I think it's cool that being married has not yet significantly raised my monthly expenses.

(09-13-01) I think that killing a few hundred innocent people isn't much better than killing a few thousand, so we should be careful in our retaliation efforts.

(08-17-01) I think it's cool that, now that the wedding is over, I can finally live in the moment, and not spend all of my time looking forward to something. I still look forward to each weekend somewhat, but the week is much more tolerable than it used to be. I'm not wishing time to fly anymore.

(08-15-01) I think it's kind of cool that, as millions of kids are miserable about school starting back, this is pretty much just another week for me...

(08-09-01) I think it's cool that Mrs. Stewart actually gave me McDonald's gift certificates for a wedding present (see thought from 6-21). So while we're at it, I think it'd be cool if someone gave me a million dollars for Christmas...

(08-08-01) I think it feels really weird to have had different non-leftover home-cooked meals two nights in a row. I think I like being married. :)

(07-26-01) I think I should mention that Brandon and I played tennis again this week, and after I beat him soundly in the first set, he wore me down and won the second set in a tie breaker. I will be avenged.

(07-23-01) I think my last weekend as a bachelor was pretty fun.

(07-19-01) I think if people were as generous to everyone as they are to people who are about to get married, everyone would be much happier. They'd have no money from buying so many presents, but they'd have TONS of store credit.

(07-18-01) I think I apparently haven't had time to think much in the last few weeks.

(07-10-01) I think it's going to be neat to have a significant other during the week again...

(07-07-01) I think the abundance of wedding gifts is nothing less than amazing.

(06-29-01) I think I'd like everyone to know that I beat Brandon in our first set of tennis 6-2. I just love starting new rivalries...especially after all the thumpings he gave me in ping pong.

(06-29-01) I think tennis is a really fun game.

(06-24-01) I think it's great to have a fully functional upstairs bathroom again!

(06-21-01) I think it'd be cool if people gave me McDonald's gift certificates as a wedding present.

(06-21-01) I think the term "fine china" comes from the Latin phrase for "gathers dust".

(06-19-01) I think riding waves is one of the most fun things.

(06-13-01) I think this trip to the beach couldn't have come at a better time.

(06-10-01) I think I saw more roadkill (two deer, a racoon, two possum, and a skunk) on my trip to Kentucky this weekend than in my whole life previously.

(06-01-01) I think I knew once again that Tammy and I were made for each other when I asked her tonight what she wanted to watch while we ate supper, and she said The Simpsons.

(05-30-01) I think the next two months should go by really fast.

(05-15-01) I think as much as I'm looking forward to the wedding, eloping sure would have been a lot easier and cheaper...

(05-10-01) I think July 28 should hurry up and get here.

(04-23-01) I think sometimes I miss the "college life" more than I would ever let on.

(04-14-01) I think I must be a grown-up now...Lowe's and Home Depot are two of my favorite stores.

(04-03-01) I think the government should not take like 30-40% of my money. Just look at what God can do with only 10%...
