Brush With Fame

On my recent trip to the beach (it was to near Destin, FL if you must know), my family stayed a few villas over from Amy Grant and Vince Gill and their family. We shared a pool with them, sat near them on the beach on several occasions, saw them out riding bikes, playing tennis, playing volleyball, etc. We eventually figured out (at least we think) which kids were whose, which were nieces and nephews, etc.

I don't own any of Amy Grant's albums (though I do have a song or two on some compilation CDs), I couldn't name a Vince Gill song if you held a gun to my head, and until we saw them there I had no clue what Vince looked like.

So why do I mention this? I'm not sure...for some reason it's a really big deal. It's just one of those odd things about people...they get really excited about spotting (or in my case swimming with) famous people.

A funny example of this was a group of teenagers (looked to be a senior trip) who were sitting near both us and the Gills one day. We had all been there for several hours when one of the girls comes back from the bar yelling to her friends, "Guess who the bartender just told me is here! Vince Gill and Amy Grant!" Now I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they weren't huge fans of either, seeing as how even when they saw them they had to confirm who they were, and before that one of them had asked a friend what movies Amy had starred in. These people had been sitting right next to them for hours, and didn't care at all...then when they found out they were famous, they went all nuts and got their picture made with them and stuff.

This planet's just a funny place to live sometimes.
