Maine vs. New Hampshire

Series Record: Series tied 43-43-8 (2004)
Trophy: The Brice-Cowell Musket.
Notes: The musket is named after two great former coaches - Fred Brice of Maine and Bill Cowell of New Hampshire. The tradition began in the late 1940s by each school's alumni chapters in Portland, Maine. The musket is a flintlock rifle made between 1722 and 1745 in Falmouth, Maine.

Trophy:The schools have different names for it. MTSU calls it the Totem Pole. Tennessee Tech refers to it as Shinny Ninny.
Notes: With MTSU moving up to I-A, the rivalry is on hiatus, with no current plans to resume.


Minnesota vs. Wisconsin

Series Record: Minnesota leads 59-47-8 (2004)
Trophy: Paul Bunyan's Axe
Notes: This is the oldest rivalry in NCAA Division I-A. The teams have met every year since 1907. Before Paul Bunyan's Axe, the teams played for the "Slab of Bacon", a piece of wood with the word "BACON" and a figure that would represent an "M" or a "W" depending on the point of reference. The idea was that the winning team "brought home the bacon". It was lost in the early 1940's, but resurfaced in 1994. The tradition of Paul Bunyan's Axe started in 1948.

Trophy: The Golden Egg trophy
Notes: The game is also known as the "Battle for the Golden Egg". The "Golden Egg" is a trophy in the shape of an old-time football on a pedestal. Because of its ovalesque shape, it resembles an egg; thus the name. Ole Miss leads the series 49-22-5 in games since the teams began playing for the "Golden Egg" trophy in 1927.
