Admiration

Have you ever been left speechless in complete and total awe of someone? I don't mean it in some cheesy romantic way (such ways have been banned from my vocabulary)...I just mean that you're completely taken back by the incredible talent of someone. They can do something so well that you wish you could do and it blows your mind. Perhaps a story would illustrate my point.

A few years ago, I met this person. For the sake of anonymity, we'll call him Chuck. Chuck was one of those people who could just wake up in the morning and know something special was going to happen. It was as if he had a seventh or eighth sense that kept him one step ahead of everyone else. Even in times when no one else had any clue what was going on, he was calm and in control. Nothing could shake his intense concentration for what was at hand, and this incredible focus allowed him to have perceptive powers way beyond those of most people. If someone was lying to him, he could tell. If someone was completely sincere in their representation of their cause, he knew. No one doubted his abilities.

Then one day, something tragic happened to Chuck. I won't get into the details, but let's just say it devastated him. For a brief time, he was no longer the dynamic, energetic go-getter he used to be. He was a distant, bitter person. Some felt like they no longer knew Chuck, and some simply became angry at him for changing. They had looked to him as a symbol of solidity and stedfastness, and when he allowed his problems to get the best of him, they became disillusioned and cynical.

I managed to stay away from this category of people. I knew what kind of a person Chuck was on the inside and knew this was only a temporary situation. Chuck and I were still on close terms.

Then one day, that all changed.

I realized that I just made this whole thing up, because I thought it'd be cool to see if I still had the ability to ramble incessantly about absolutely nothing.

I guess you'll have to be the judge of that one.
